Spring In The Air
MAPLE SPRINGS – Nearly two dozen area residents and Midway State Park staff assembled at the park Saturday to participate in New York state’s fourth installment of its “I Love My Park Day” initiative.
Occurring in more than 80 parks throughout the state, the initiative encourages community members to take pride in their local amusement parks by participating in maintenance and cleanup activities as parks prepare to open for the summer season.
This year, Midway volunteers set to doing internal work due to uncooperative weather. The two primary projects undertaken by the volunteers included interior painting of the concession stand area, and cleaning the machines inside the park’s newly renovated and remodeled arcade building.
Kate Gross, general manager of both Midway and Long Point state parks, said the “I Love My Park Day” event at Midway is a special occasion because of the sentimental nature of the park.
“Midway is just such a family-oriented park, and it’s really nice when you can see parents and grandparents letting their children and grandchildren play on the same rides and games that they did when they were young,” Gross said.
Also visiting the park for the event were Mark Thomas, western district director for New York state parks, and state Assemblyman Andrew Goodell, R-Jamestown.
