Lady Golden Falcons Battle Back For Win Over Dunkirk

DUNKIRK – Dunkirk (4-4) was able to overcome an early deficit, but in the end, one big inning allowed Falconer (6-2, 5-2) to pull ahead for a 3-2 victory in Division 1 West softball action on Friday.

After spotting Falconer a 1-0 lead on a wild pitch in the first inning, Dunkirk used a combination of small ball and timely hitting to pull ahead in the third. The score remained at 2-1 through the middle innings as Falconer’s Abby Courtney and Dunkirk’s Riley Drummond dominated on the mound.

The Lady Golden Falcons broke through in the sixth, scoring two runs, thanks to an RBI triple by Brianna McFall that scored Jenna Fellows, who got on base after a lead-off double. McFall then came home on a single by Courtney and the Lady Marauders failed to get a hit the rest of the way.

Courtney allowed only four hits while striking out seven and walking one in the complete-game victory.

Offensively, McFall finished with a triple and a single, two runs scored and an RBI while Fellows added a double, a run and a stolen base.

Courtney helped her cause at the plate with a two hits and a stolen base.

For Dunkirk, Drummond threw 5 innings, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out seven and walking none in the losing effort. Maddie Crandall had a double, a stolen base and an RBI.
