Excellence On Ice

Excellence is returning to the Jamestown Savings Bank Arena today.

The Jamestown Skating Club’s annual event, Excellence on Ice, will be held with two performances, one at 3 p.m. and the second 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 a show for general admission and $20 for on-ice table seating. Menash Petscher, Jamestown Skating Club director, said each performance will last about one and a half hours. Petscher said the Jamestown Skating Club puts on the performance each year at the arena, located at 319 W. Third St., Jamestown.

“This is a family-fun community show that we have done for many years,” he said. “We are a nonprofit group in the area here to promote figure skating for anyone aspiring to be a figure skater.”

The Jamestown Skating Club includes members from all over the area, Petscher said. The skaters on the ice today will range from ages 2 to 22. He said there will be about 35 skaters involved in the show. Some of the club’s skaters have gone on to professional skating careers.

“They are high-level skaters. In the last 14 years, we’ve sent skaters on to pro careers like Disney on Ice,” he said.

Petscher said it is a fun event for the skaters, who have fun with the exhibition, non-competition performance.

“They do group numbers and solos, and it is an extravaganza,” he said. “People won’t be disappointed to spend their Saturday at the arena. It’s also a great Mother’s Day gift.”

United States Figure Skating Association gold medalist and regional competitor Stephanie Hice is one of the many Jamestown Skating Club members who will perform in the club’s annual show.
