BOCES Students Earn Microsoft PowerPoint Certification

ASHVILLE – Fifteen high school juniors from Chautauqua County attending Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES Hewes Educational Center’s Information Technology-Computer Systems program have earned certification in Microsoft PowerPoint.

The certification is awarded to students after completing classroom study and a timed examination through Certipoint, a specialized online testing service.

“We are excited to announce that our entire junior class has received certification in PowerPoint, a designation that is determined by Microsoft standards,” said instructor Michael Dietzen. “Their hard work has paid off and they are now experts in software used in just about every IT setting around the world.”

The Microsoft Office Specialist Exams are offered to students who study the full functionality of the software suite. Upon completion of PowerPoint tasks and online practice testing, the Hewes Center pupils’ skills were measured through a battery of questions covering presentation design, content creation, and management of multiple presentations.

Students awarded certification include, with home school: David Applebee (Clymer), Zachary Austin (Falconer), Jacob Britton (Frewsburg), Robert Burham (Panama), Jared Dahlberg (Bemus Point), Logan Dulmus (Ripley), Jacob Flasher (Frewsburg), Storm Hartmann (Southwestern), Andrew Leach (Bemus Point), Justin Lyle (Clymer), Travis Stahl (Panama), Tristin Tapp (Sherman), Brett Turnquist (Bemus Point) and Cody Winans (Southwestern).

Upon completion of the examination, all participants were presented with certificates signed by the CEO of Microsoft.

“Erie 2 BOCES provides the only opportunity for students in the Southern Tier to take these Microsoft examinations as part of an IT course,” Dietzen said. “Our learners seize these unique chances to bolster their portfolios and get a step ahead in their future plans for college and the workforce.”
