Beverly “Joann” Gustafson Appleton

Beverly “Joann” Gustafson Appleton, 77, left her family and friends to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 29, 2014. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She possessed a kind and gentle spirit, always wanted to help others, and was loved by many.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Esther Gustafson; husband, Chester “Sonny” Appleton; daughter, Cynthia Whitney; daughter, Debra Rolen; sister, Roberta Nichols; and brother, Richard Gustafson.

She is survived by brother, Alan (Joan) Gustafson; children: Susan (George) Hannah, Bruce (Marilee) Alger, Julie (Mark) Horlings, Jan (Randy) Booth, Brian (Rachel) Alger, Mike (Bettie) Alger, Kathleen (Brian) Baker and Billie Jo (Tim) Appleton; sons-in-law: James Rolen and Wesley Whitney; 32 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; special niece, Cher (Bill) Clark; sisters-in-law: Doris Hamilton and Marilyn Appleton; brother-in-law, Dan (Ann) Appleton; and a multitude of additional family and friends.

Beverly “Joann” grew up in Jamestown, N.Y., and spent several years in Toledo, Ohio, before moving to the Knoxville, Tenn. area. She had worked most recently as a pharmacy tech before retiring in 2000. She attended church at Beech Grove Baptist Church in Louisville, Tenn., and loved the Lord.

She was very creative and enjoyed working on a wide variety of crafts from crocheting to scrapbooking and shared what she made with family and friends, blessing all with her talents.

A celebration of Beverly’s life will be held at Beech Grove Baptist Church, 1519 Topside Road, Louisville, TN 37777 on Saturday, May 3 at 5 p.m. with Pastor Kenny Armstrong officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the church from 4-5 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Beech Grove Baptist Church at the address listed above and designated for “Missions.”
