Change For The Better
Lincoln Elementary School recently raised $344.53 for the Chautauqua County Humane Society’s “Pennies 4 Paws” campaign. The Lincoln PTA then matched that amount for a total donation of $700.
“It is awesome to see so many young people and their parents coming together for a great cause. We are truly grateful for what the kids at Lincoln and their PTA were able to do for the animals here at CCHS,” said Edwin Rodriguez Jr., CCHS’ director of communications. “Children are born with a strong sense of charity and compassion. Harnessing those characteristics early through volunteerism and charity is a great way to build a better community around them. The money donated to Pennies 4 Paws will greatly impact what we do and what we’re able to offer the community. The kids are helping build something special here and we hope they return as they get older.”
The third and fourth grades voted on the local charity that should receive the money. The two-week event included collecting change from classrooms and during meals with the daily progress charted on “paws” in the cafeteria.
“I brought in change from home,” said Lincoln Elementary School student Katelyn Rhodes. “We got our dog Jasper from the Humane Society and by giving some money I am helping other dogs.”
