Golden Falcon Track & Field Invitational Will Have 42 Teams
FALCONER – The 13th annual Falconer Golden Falcon Track & Field Invitational will take place this Friday at Bill Race Field beginning at 4:15 p.m.
There are 21 schools entered: Allegany-Limestone, Cassadaga Valley, Cattaraugus-Little Valley, Chautauqua Lake, Clymer/Sherman/Panama, East Aurora, Falconer, Fredonia, Frewsburg, Gowanda, Harborcreek, Holland, Jamestown, Maple Grove, Olean, Portville, Randolph, Silver Creek/Forestville, Southwestern, Westfield and West Seneca West.
“This year’s invitational is shaping up to be one of the most competitive we have hosted,” said director and Falconer girls coach Mike LeBaron. “With 42 track teams attending, there will be about 500-600 athletes here that night. Of those, 12 are defending Section 6 champions, and three are Section 6 individual cross country champions. Also, members of the Maple Grove girls Section 6 cross country team champion (Class D) and East Aurora girls (Class C) will be competing as well.”
The returning Section 6 champions expected to compete are: Mitchell Moore (Jamestown, 400 hurdles), Corey Wefing (Maple Grove, 3,200 meters and cross country Class D), Jordan Powers (Southwestern, 400 hurdles), Matt Civilette (Fredonia, triple jump), Greg Hart (West Seneca West, long jump), Owen Barber (Allegany-Limestone, cross country Class C), Christina Walter (Maple Grove, 100 meters), Chelsea Grupp (Holland, 200 meters), Brittany Feldman (Southwestern, 400 meters), Marta McGlaughin (East Aurora, 800 meters), Mckenzie Swartzman (Frewsburg, 1,500 meters), Mackenzie Wright (Falconer, triple jump), Abigail Jankowski (West Seneca West, 800 meters) and Hope Pietrocarlo (Maple Grove, cross country Class D).
Athletes placing in the top three will receive medals while fourth through sixth earn ribbons. The event champions also receive a custom T-shirt. The top team will be awarded a plaque. In addition, plaques will be given to the Most Outstanding Field Event Athlete, Track Athlete, and top Overall Athlete. Additionally, a senior male and a senior female athlete will be honored with the Joe Paterniti Memorial Sportsmanship Award.
A concession stand will be operating and admission to the meet is $1, which includes a program. All proceeds benefit the Falconer Track & Field Club.
