Jayhawks Get Split Against Broome CC

BINGHAMTON – A two-run rally in the seventh inning carried Jamestown Community College to a split in an NJCAA Region 3 Division III baseball doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.

JCC was trailing, 4-3, but came up with two runs in the seventh inning to pull out a 5-4 victory over Broome CC in the nightcap.

In the first game, the host Hornets had a decisive 10-0 win that was called by the 10-run rule after the sixth inning.

JCC, which twice came-from-behind in the see-saw second game, got started in the seventh with a one-out single by Marcelo Parker for his fourth hit. Brandon Habibulah went in to run for Parker, who was hampered by an sprained ankle. Then with two outs, Jeff Andrulis singled followed by Greg Marco hitting a two-strike RBI single that the right fielder dove for and failed to make the catch.

With Ken Millan up, a passed ball allowed the go-ahead run to score.

Hunter Zimmer retired the side in order to get the win to make JCC’s record 8-21.

Parker drove in pair of runs with his hits while Steve Saltz and Marco finished with two hits for the winners.

”I like the way we battled back in the second game,” said JCC coach Dick Adams.

Nathan Starkes started for JCC and went five innings and gave up four runs, all earned, with two strikeouts and two walks. Zimmer finished up with two innings of one-hit ball with a strikeout and a walk.

In the opener, Parker got the start and went four innings before leaving with a 2-0 deficit because of a pitch count and coming off a high ankle sprain.

Seven runs crossed the plate in the fifth for Broome against Saltz and Luke Macakacja. Saltz permitted five earned runs on four hits with a walk.

Macakanja went 1 innings, yielding three hits, three earned runs, four walks and three strikeouts before the game came to end because of the 10-run rule.

Andrulis had a perfect game by hitting safely three times and Cody Matheson added two hits for JCC.

JCC is right back at it this afternoon in a twin bill with Broome at Diethrick Park at 1 p.m.
