Dunkirk Girls Outlast Maple Grove

DUNKIRK – Despite brutal playing conditions, the Dunkirk Lady Marauders (2-2) were able to play a full seven innings and came away with an 11-6 Division 1 West softball victory over the Maple Grove Lady Red Dragons at Dunkirk’s Veteran’s Field on Friday.

Maple Grove jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but Dunkirk came storming back to score eight runs over the next two innings, including a six-run third inning that put the Lady Marauders ahead for good.

Dunkirk added two more runs in the fourth and another in the fifth to take a commanding 11-2 lead into the seventh inning.

Maple Grove tacked on four runs in the seventh, but by then the game was largely out of reach.

Aimee Kaufman earned the complete-game win in the circle, allowing three earned runs and five hits while striking out two and walking three.

Riley Drummond tripled in the win and added a single while Keraghen Krzyzanowicz added two hits and four RBIs.

Selena Ruiz and Maddy Crandall contributed triples for Dunkirk while doubles were recorded by Emilee Hanlon and Kaufman.

Lynne Nordin went the distance for the Lady Red Dragons, allowing 11 runs and 15 hits while striking out one and walking two.
