Mary G. Bastian

Mary G. Bastian, 88, died Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014, at her home in Redwood Terrace in Grants Pass, Ore. The oldest daughter of Harold and Margaret Anderson Gesin, she was born June 18, 1925.

A memorial service will be held in Falconer at a later date. Interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Frewsburg.

Raised on an oil lease, Mary graduated from Tionesta High School in Pennsylvania and Jamestown Business College. She married Harold “Bill” Bas-tian on March 21, 1946. They made their home in Falconer where they are remembered for their willingness to serve their neighbors, church and community. Mary was employed at Marine Midland Bank in Falconer for 25 years as an administrative assistant and loan officer, retiring in 1988. She was an accomplished knitter, seamstress and avid gardener. She thoroughly enjoyed preparing and sharing her preserves, baked goods and Christmas candy.

Mary moved to Oregon in 2009 to be close to her daughters and their families. She is survived by Rebecca (James) McCray of Lakeview, Ore., and Roberta (Dennis) Griffin of Grants Pass, Ore.; six grandchildren: Michael McCray, Annie Thornton and Stephen Griffin of Lakeview, and Thomas Griffin, Andrew Griffin and Aaron Griffin of Grants Pass, Ore.; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by four sisters-in-law: Alice Bastian of Falconer, Susan Bas-tian of Jamestown, and Ethel Bastian and Joan Bastian of Frewsburg; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Bill on June 6, 2002; her sister, Barbara Dudick on Oct. 8, 2013; and an infant sister, Roseanna.

Memorials may be made to the Falconer Public Library, the United Methodist Church in Falconer, or the Humane Society.
