Kathleen C. “Kay” Heckman
Kathleen C. “Kay” Heckman, 78, passed away Friday, April 18, 2014, at the Transylvania Regional Hospital in North Carolina.
Kay was born in Meadville, Pa., July 28, 1935, the daughter of Walter and Blanche (Doubet) Chisholm.
Kathleen married David “Jerry” Heckman at the St. Bridgets R.C. Church in Meadville, Pa., May 4, 1957.
Kathleen retired from the former JN Adam Developmental Center in Perrysburg, where she worked as a dietician. She worked for New York state for nearly 20 years before retiring. A few years after retirement Jerry and Kay decided to move to Brevard, N.C., a place they called home for almost 20 years.
In addition to Jerry, Kay is also survived by three sons: David Heckman of Jamestown, Douglas (Luann) Heckman of Gowanda and Timothy Heckman of Lexington, S.C.; grandchildren: Brian and Kimberly and great-grandson, Gavin; a brother, Walter (Wymina) Chisholm of Meadville, Pa.; and a sister, Elizabeth (John) Olds of Sugar Grove, Pa. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Besides her parents Kathleen was preceded in death by a son, Charles Joseph Heckman, who passed away Jan. 5, 1967.
Friends may call at the Schindler Funeral Home, 44 Center St., Gowanda (532-4200) from 4-7 p.m. today. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home Thursday, April 24 at 11 a.m. Father Joseph Porpiglia of the St. Joseph’s R.C. Church, Gowanda, will officiate with interment to follow in the Perrysburg Cemetery, Route 39, Perrysburg.
