Petersen Comes Through In Clutch For Golden Falcons

FALCONER – Kyle Petersen was the hero for Falconer (2-1, 4-1), coming through in the clutch for a dramatic 8-7 extra-innings win over Silver Creek (0-2, 2-3) in Division 1 West baseball on Tuesday.

The Golden Falcons scored four runs in the first inning for a 4-1 lead and were ahead 5-1 when Silver Creek scored three in the top of the fifth to make it 5-4. Falconer added two more in the bottom of the inning to lead 7-4, but the Black Knights battled back with three runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game.

In Falconer’s half of the eighth, Gibson Stewart walked and Chris Elderkin came in as a pinch runner and stole second base. Jim Schwab bunted Elderkin to third and Petersen came up and drilled a walk-off single.

Mike Wilcox earned the win for Falconer, going 1 innings, surrendering no hits, no runs, two walks and had three strikeouts.

Petersen led the Golden Falcons with four hits and an RBI, Wilcox added two hits including a two-RBI double and an RBI single. and Stewart and Tommy Fales both had RBIs.

John Murphy took the loss for Silver Creek in relief, giving up two hits and a walk. Murphy, Jake Nosbisch and Craig Gilbert all had two hits.
