Man Dies In Moon Road Fire

ELLICOTT — A 93-year-old man was found dead inside his Moon Road home Thursday night after it was engulfed in a raging structure fire.

At approximately 10:40 p.m., the Fluvanna Fire Department responded to the scene at 3161 Moon Road.

The male victim — whose name was not released — was found inside the home and pronounced dead at the scene by County Coroner John Sixbey.

The victim likely died of smoke inhalation as a result of the fire, according to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators determined that an electrical wire had been compromised in a crawl space under the kitchen of the home. The electrical wire shorted out and caused the floor joist to ignite.

The Fluvanna Fire Department was assisted by Bemus Point, Busti, Ellery Center, Ellington, Falconer, Frewsburg, Gerry, Kennedy, Kiantone and Sinclairville fire departments.
