During this Easter season, area residents have the opportunity to walk in the footsteps of Jesus.
Hillcrest Baptist Church, located at 40 Hallock St. in Jamestown, will be hosting the Dust of the Rabbi experience again this year. The event, focused on bringing attendees as close to the experience of witnessing Jesus Christ’s final days as possible, will take place today, from 6-9 p.m.; Saturday, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m.; and Sunday, from noon-2 p.m. The guided experience is free and open to the public, although it may not be suitable for young children.
“It’s a real journey from Palm Sunday to Easter,” said Mark Hinman, pastor at Hillcrest. “It’s 33 minutes in the footsteps of Jesus.”
According to Todd Pullan, program director, this year’s experience is more personal than ever before.
“There is a reflection and response portion at the end of the tour that provides an opportunity for people to react. They can fill out a card and write something about which scenes were the most impactful to them,” Pullan said. “This is not a play that people come to watch, but rather an experience that they take part in and are a part of. We used our creative license to put pieces together, but it’s as realistic as possible.”
According to Pullan, although the experience centers upon facing the reality of Jesus’ crucifixion, it ends with the joy of knowing that Christ died for each and every believer.
The experience will begin with Christ’s triumphant entry, including palm branches, a live donkey and onlookers shouting, “Hosanna.”
“The flow is better than ever,” Hinman said, referencing the experience’s updated layout.
Other scenes include Jesus’ disciples talking in the Upper Room, the Garden of Gethsemane and Pontius Pilate’s palace.
At the end of the event, communion will be available for Christians to partake in.
Over two dozen individuals have helped with the set up and construction of the event. Nearly 50 “cast members” will be participating.
In the past, over 700 people have attended the Dust of the Rabbi experience at Hillcrest.
