Area Teams Aim To Strike Out Cancer

The Chautauqua County Baseball Umpires Association has teamed up with the Jamestown Savings Bank Arena and the Jamestown Cycle Shop to “Strike Out Cancer.” The weeklong fundraiser is scheduled for April 21 through April 26 in an effort to help raise awareness of breast and prostate cancer.

Throughout the week, during their regular scheduled games, high school teams and umpires will make a monetary donation to the Roswell Park Cancer Institute. Those who contribute will receive light blue and/or pink wristbands, donated by the Cycle Shop, to be sported during their games.

“This is a great event to raise awareness and funds towards not only breast and prostate cancer but cancer in general. Everyone knows someone who has been affected by the disease, so it’s great that we can come together as a community and recognize those that we know and honor those that we lost,” said JJ Bilinski, event coordinator and member of the CCBUA.

Strike Out Cancer Week concludes at Russell Diethrick Park where high school teams will take the field April 25 and all day April 26. For a full list of teams participating and their game times, contact Bilinski at or (716) 484-2624.

Anyone interested in making a donation to the Strike Out Cancer fund can send or drop off payment to Bilinski at 319 W. 3rd St., Jamestown. Checks should be made payable to the Chautauqua County Baseball Umpires Association.
