Frewsburg Lions Talk Sight, Sound

The Frewsburg Lions Club met recently in the Zion Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall. Program Chair Gary Wells introduced Thomas Caruso, a local specialist in the field of audiology. He spoke about how hearing deficiencies can affect our everyday lives, and told about many new innovations in hearing aid products that are being developed to assist hearing quality. He answered many questions asked by the club members.

Lion President Robin Schroeder conducted the business meeting. Gary Wells, a member of the advisory board for Vision Beyond Sight, reported that the Frewsburg Lions Club has contributed $1,200 since the inception of the Lions’ Diagnostic Center at the Ross Eye Institute. The club donated a gift basket for a Chinese Auction at a recent fundraiser for Vision Beyond Sight.

De Warn announced that the Adopt-a-Highway clean-up is taking place. Six Lions are participating. He also reported that he has recently submitted 113 pairs of eye-glasses for use in countries around the world. Schroeder noted that she attended the Chautauqua Blind Association Dining in the Dark event, and related her experience of dining without sight.

Immediate Past President Wells read the nominations for officers and directors for the 2014-15 year. A unanimous ballot was cast for the following officers: President Danielle O’Connor, 1st Vice President Robert Anderson, 2nd Vice President Robert Johnson, Secretary Martha Dove, Treasurer Norma Eklund, Membership Chair Donald Dove, Financial Secretary Denny Williams, Tail Twister Tom Swanson, Lion Tamer Jerry Eklund, Immediate Past President Robin Schroeder, Directors – 1 year Donald Dove, David Miller, Directors – 2 years Wendell Berg, Gary Wells.

The next meeting of the Lions Club will be on Monday, April 28, at Frewsburg Central School Community Room.
