Panama Cruises To Victory Behind Abbate’s No-Hitter
PANAMA – Carly Abbate of Panama has recorded the first girls softball no-hitter in the area this season on Thursday afternoon.
Abbate threw her no-no in a 11-0 Panama (1-2, 1-2) decision over Clymer (0-2) in a Division 2 West game.
She fanned seven and walked just two while allowing just three runners.
”Her palmball was working and she was able to hit the corners,” said Panama coach Tammy Hosier.
”We played well defensively with only one error,” said Hosier.
Taylor Bowen drove in three runs with two singles, Hailey King also chipped in with three RBIs with two singles, and Madalyn Bowen contributed two hits in the winning effort.
Brittany Lenart had a RBI double for the Lady Panthers, who broke it open with five-run third inning to make the score be 7-0.
LADY T-BIRDS ROLL
MAYVILLE – Ryleigh Hawkins carried the hot bat for Chautauqua Lake.
Hawkins delivered two doubles and a single while Ashley Moulton added three singles as the Lady Thunderbirds (3-0, 3-0) defeated previously-undefeated Westfield (2-1, 3-1), 12-4.
Ashton Albanesius of CLCS hit an apparent home run, but had to settle for a double when a bystander picked up the ball.
Jade Walsh and Olivia Anderson combined for a three-hitter with five strikeouts for the victors, who played stellar defense.
Walsh pitched the first three innings and allowed two hits before leaving with an injury. Anderson went the final four innings, allowing a hit and fanning four.
Rachel Allen belted out a double and a single, and K. Catalano had a single for the Westfield hits.
The Lady Thunderbirds scored often and early with five runs in the first inning, three runs in the second and four more in the third.
On Wednesday, the Lady Thunderbirds scored eight runs in the second inning and finished off the scoring with eight more runs in the sixth inning en route to a 20-5 win over Panama
Ryleigh Hawkins drilled three hits with an RBI double and Courtney Hewes and Mel McCutcheon each added a double and single to the winning attack.
Winning pitcher Olivia Anderson, Emilee Steger and Ashton Albanesius did the pitching and gave up five hits. Anderson went three innings and yielded three hits followed by Steger for two innings and a hit and Albanesius also gave up a hit in the final two innings.
Panama scored all five runs in the third inning and saw Natalie Bowen and Natalie Torres each have a double and a single.
