Meredith Hurls T’Birds To Win

MAYVILLE – Freshman Tyler Meredith was a tower of strength for Chautauqua Lake in its Division II West baseball opener on Wednesday afternoon.

Meredith gave up just one hit while fanning 14 and throwing 109 pitches as the Thunderbirds (1-0, 2-0) downed Panama (0-2, 0-2), 11-0.

Meredith was aided by the defense, which made just one error. The offense was led by Ian Clute with five RBIs on two hits and three runs scored. Cody Sargent had a double and drove in three runs in the victory.

The only hit for Panama was by Josh Giddy, who had a line drive between third base and shortstop for a single in the fourth inning.

DIVISION 2 EAST

PANTHERS BREEZE

FRANKLINVILLE – The Pine Valley Panthers had no trouble against host Franklinville as they rolled to a 14-2 East 2 Division victory on Wednesday afternoon.

Winfred Nelson took care of all seven innings on the mound for Pine Valley and ended the game with 11 strikeouts and one walk.

Nelson was also 2-for-3 at the plate as was teammate Merle Wheeler.

Kevin Bigham was the starter for Franklinville and fanned nine with six walks through five innings. Brock Blecha picked up five strikeouts in relief.

Dawson Beilecki provided the offense for Franklinville, smacking two hits.
