New Art On Display At Fluvanna Library
A former art teacher is currently displaying his personal artwork at the Fluvanna Free Library.
During the month of April, James Vincent will be presenting his watercolor and charcoal drawing artwork at the library.
Vincent received his fine arts degree from Jamestown Community College and his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in art education from Buffalo State Teachers’ College.
He taught for more than 30 years in the Falconer school district and still occasionally substitute teaches throughout the county.
Vincent, who grew up in Silver Creek and was interested in art from a young age, recently ignited an interest in drawing with charcoal after he taught a lesson focused on the medium while substitute teaching.
“Drawing with charcoal is new for me. I’ve really gotten into it seriously within the last two years,” Vincent said. “For now, it’s my favorite.”
According to Vincent, his main passion is capturing people in their natural habitat and using photographs as a base for super realistic charcoal artwork. Much of his artwork features family members and famous athletes.
“I try to capture people in their natural surroundings with candid poses,” he said. “I really try to capture personality, mainly using pictures as my inspiration. I want to capture as much detail as possible of the subject and their background.”
Vincent has also recently finished writing and illustrating a children’s book, titled “Back When And For Now.”
“I started writing the book four or five months ago,” he said. “It’s based on a true story. I’ve always wanted to write and illustrate my own book.”
“Back When And For Now” is centered on a child whose routine world is temporarily upset.
Currently, Vincent is looking at various publishing options in hopes of releasing the book by fall.
