Rodney D. Asel

MAYVILLE – Rodney D. Asel, 48, of Davis Road, Mayville, died Friday (April 4, 2014) in Westfield Memorial Hospital.

He was born Sept. 29, 1965, in Jamestown, N.Y., the son of Ralph Asel and the late Ida Stevens Asel.

Rod worked for the North Harmony Highway Department.

He was a member of the Lake Chautauqua Memorial Post VFW in Mayville and was a past president of the Men’s Auxiliary.

Rod enjoyed playing pool, hunting, fishing, camping and cars. He was a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and loved his family.

He is survived by his father, Ralph Asel II, of Panama; three children: Steven (Tessa) Asel of Jamestown, Joshua Asel of Mayville and Nichole (Malcolm) Massey of Lincoln, Neb.; two granddaughters: Natalee and Madison Massey; two brothers: Michael (Laura) Asel of Ashville, and Ralph Asel III of Jamestown; and two sisters: Connie Greene of Erie, Pa. and Penny Kucpynsyi of Erie, Pa.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ida Mae Asel; and a grandson, Cameron Lee Massey.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Freay Funeral Home, Mayville.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
