Victoria Elizabeth Klark
Victoria Elizabeth Klark passed gently into Heaven on April 4, 2014, from a broken heart. She was married for 62 years and was preceded in death three months prior by her husband and also her youngest child seven years earlier. She was born March 13, 1930, to Mary and Victor Byer, the youngest of 12 children. She graduated from Youngsville High School and worked at Bell Telephone Co in Warren, Pa., and later WCA Hospital in Jamestown, N.Y.
Vicki, or Hun, as she was known to family, married Louis Klark on Sept. 22, 1951, and they moved to Jamestown, N.Y., to raise their family of seven. Vicki was well known for the many types of homemade pierogies and baked goods that came from her kitchen. She enjoyed gardening and at times would compete with her husband to see whose garden would produce the biggest and best vegetables. She and her husband moved to Matthews, N.C., where they enjoyed their retirement together. Vicki enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting items which she donated to charities. She was known for her caring and nurturing mannerism. One of her strongest attributes was her tender heart. She received enjoyment from doing things for others such as leaving small anonymous gifts to those who didn’t know her. She and her husband always enjoyed morning walks in their Matthews’s neighborhood. During Christmas, she saw a neighbor’s nativity scene in their yard and she wanted the baby Jesus to be warm. She knitted a blanket for the baby Jesus and anonymously placed it over him. To this day, baby Jesus is still warm at Christmas. She nurtured people and animals; she even swaddled an ill family cat in a blanket and rocked it in a rocking chair while she was helping to bring back its health. She was a master at playing Gin Rummy and really enjoyed playing her full hand at the drop of a hat.
She is survived by daughters: Yolanda Beichner (Bud) Sinclairville, N.Y., Marlene Samuelson (Ron) Bemus Pt., N.Y., and Ann Schwob (David) Stanfield, N.C.; and sons: Gene Klark (Mary) Granville, Ohio, Jerome Klark (Holly), Springfield, Ohio, and Allen Klark (Linda), Plano, Texas; 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Vicki is also survived by her sisters: Kate Minarski (Stanley) of Elmira, N.Y., and Sister Mary Hilda of St Joseph’s Convent in Erie, Pa.; and brother, Victor Byer, of Jamestown, N.Y.
Special thanks from the family to Kim Karsen “Kimmee” who was the personal caregiver for Vicki and brought out the best in her. Kim supplied an unlimited amount of love and care to both Vicki and Louis in their later years and has been a large part of the family.
A loving mom and wife, she was preceded in death by her youngest child, John, on Oct. 14, 2007, and the love of her life and husband of 62 years, Louis, on Jan. 1, 2014.
She was also preceded in death by sisters: Julia, Helen and Pauline; and brothers: Edward, William, Walt and John.
A viewing is scheduled for 11 a.m. at McEwen Funeral Home in Mint Hill, N.C., followed by a Christian Mass at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Matthews, N.C., at 1 p.m. on April 8, 2014.
