Boy Scouts Learn Skills In Search And Rescue Mission

New York State Forest Ranger David Pachan, right, is shown reviewing a map with Scouts Tanner Toy, left, and Keeshawn Smith, center, before conducting a search and rescue exercise on March 16 at Long Point State Park. Scouts from Bemus Point Troop 137 were completing requirements for the new Search & Rescue Merit Badge that includes first aid, compass work, map reading and search techniques among related skills. Ranger Pachan, a 10-year veteran, has taught search and rescue methods to area fire and police units over the years. This is the first time he has taught the skills to Boy Scouts.
