Josephine Batts Coburn
Josephine Batts Coburn, passed peacefully into Heaven on March 28, 2014.
Born March 28, 1936, in Harborcreek, Pa., to the late Merle and Josephine Boesch Batts.
She grew up in Ripley, N.Y. She raised her family in Sherman, N.Y., and later moved to Jamestown, N.Y.
She received her nursing degree later in life and worked for many years as an RN. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and baking bread. Her real love were the students at Fletcher Elementary School where she was a foster grandma.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands: Leon S. Barringer in 1962 and Gerald H. Coburn in 1997; brothers: Elwin, Elmer and William Batts; sisters: Beatrice Perkins, Muriel Batts, Mary Pierson and Ellen Pajersky; and three great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children: Debra Pattison, Katherine Persons, Sam Barringer and Lisa Gorski; stepchildren: Curt, Dan, James Coburn, Joyce Treaster, Marilyn Coburn, Beth Knapp and Becky Creighton; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Violet Wentz and Charlotte Steele.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 31, 2014, at the First Baptist Church, Sherman, N.Y., with visitation and hour prior to the service at church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Foster Grandparent Program at Fletcher School, Jamestown, NY 14701 in memory of Joesphine Batts Coburn.
