Auxiliary To Meet

Marco Polo Auxiliary members will meet on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be hosted by Rita Ellis. Mary Racitano, president, hosted a recent meeting. A memorial was held for deceased members Josie Trippi, Jay Carlo and the mother of Ruth Boscia. Discussion was on the need for new members and baking for the monthly spaghetti dinners at the club. Celebrating birthdays were Josephine Marcella, Sylvia Bonaventura, Josephine Conti, Dorothy Galati and Frances Lunetta. Lists of monthly hosts and desserts were distributed to attending members.

Dental Group To Give Scholarship

The Jamestown Dental Auxiliary is currently offering a scholarship to a female high school senior who is pursuing a career in the dental field. Eligible seniors must be accepted into a college program pertaining to dentistry. Applications are available from high school guidance counselors. Beekeepers To Meet Thursday

Chautauqua County Beekeepers Association held the March meeting March 6 for the election of officers for 2014 year. The results were: Laura LaMonica – president; Dennis LaMonica – vice president; Walt Dahlgren – treasurer; Sam Radicella – secretary. The CCBA meets the first Thursday of the month at the Frank Bratt Ag Center, Turner Road, Jamestown, at 7. All are welcome. Contact for info or to be included on the email list.

Chili Dinner

Set For Sunday

The Jamestown Church of the Nazarene, 490 Howard Ave., will host a free chili dinner on Sunday following the 10:45 a.m. worship service. For reservations, call 484-5922.

Reservations Due For AARP Dinner

The AARP chapter will meet Tuesday, April 8, beginning at 12:30 p.m., in the Tarmac Restaurant at the Jamestown Airport. Lunch will be ordered off the menu. For reservations, phone Barbara Lissfelt, at 484-1007, by the cut-off date of April 4. The board of directors will meet earlier on April 3 in the parlors of First Lutheran Church, beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Kidder To Present New Book

BEMUS POINT – On Monday, Roland Kidder will present his new book “Backtracking on Brown Water: Retracing Life on Mekong Delta River Patrols” at the Bemus Point Library. The presentation is at 7 p.m. at 13 Main St. Copies will be available for sale and signing. Kidder, a local veteran, will speak of his experience returning to Vietnam 40 years after the war. Refreshments will be served. This event is free and open to the public. Call 386-2274 for more information.

DOT Announces Lane Closures

The state Department of Transportation will begin lane closures today on state Route 430, in the village of Mayville and town of Ellery. As a result, Route 430, between Honeysette Road and county Route 54, in the village of Mayville will be reduced to one lane. In addition, Route 430, between Driftwood Road and Abbott Park Drive, in the town of Ellery will be reduced to one lane. At both locations, traffic will alternate the use of one lane, controlled by temporary traffic signals. These lane closures will remain in effect until further notice. Motorists are reminded that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone.
