JCC Swept Despite Brilliant Pitching Performances
WINTHROP, N.C. – Jamestown Community College wasted a pair of sensational pitching performances Wednesday afternoon, dropping its record to 1-4.
The Jayhawks pitchers allowed only two runs in a doubleheader against Rockingham CC, but came away with a pair of 1-0 defeats.
Marcelo Parker pitched a complete game in the opener and allowed an unearned run in the second inning. He struck out seven and walked four.
The hits for the Jayhawks were singles by Greg Marco and Ken Millan.
In the second game, JCC’s Nathan Starkes and Hunter Zimmer combined on a four-hitter . Starkes hurled four innings and gave up two hits with seven walks and three strikeouts while Zimmer went the final two innings and yielded two hits.
The third inning of the second game was when Rockingham scored on a bases-loaded walk.
Josh Allan had two hits, Cody Matheson a single and Joe Merrill a double for JCC.
JCC threatened in the third inning and again in the sixth inning, but failed to score.
”We can’t waste good pitching like we had,” said JCC coach Dick Adams.
The Jayhawks play a twin bill today at Surry (N.C.) CC with a 2 p.m. start.
