Lakers Claim Pee Wee Tier II Title In Cleveland
CLEVELAND – Chase Jones was named the tournament’s most valuable player as the Jamestown Lakers won the Pee Wee Tier II title at the Rock ‘n Roll Cup Last weekend.
Jones scored a pair of goals in the championship game Sunday afternoon as the Lakers beat Strongsville (Ohio), 2-1. Jones scored the first goal unassisted while Jack Brinkley and Callum Bagnall-Smith picked up assists on the game-winning goal.
Five different Lakers players scored in a 6-1 semifinal win Sunday morning against the Allegheny (Pa.) Badgers. Thomas Lucks opened the scoring unassisted while Jones followed up with a goal from Bagnall-Smith. Lucks then scored from Jones and Will Turner before Cooper Spielman scored the fourth goal from Tristan Spillane and Luke DePonceau. Spillane then scored from Spielman before Turner closed the scoring unassisted.
In round-robin play Friday afternoon, the Lakers lost to Westmoreland (Pa.), 6-2, with goals from Spillane and Turner. Brinkley, Spillane and Turner picked up assists.
Saturday morning, the Lakers topped the Mount Lebanon (Pa.) Hornets, 5-4. Brinkley opened the scoring from Spielman, while Spillane and Jones followed that up with unassisted goals. Lucks then scored from Jones before Spillane closed the scoring from DePonceau and Patrick Guimond.
Saturday afternoon, the Lakers beat Strongsville, 5-3. Jones scored from Spielman and Guimond before Spillane scored from Jones and Guimond. Lucks followed with a goal from Jones, and Spielman scored from DePonceau. Turner closed the scoring on a goal from Lucks and Bagnall-Smith.
Peyton Maxon was in net for the entire tournament, posting a 2.25 goals against average in the four victories.
