Snowmobile Strikes Sheriff’s Vehicle
MAYVILLE- A snowmobiler received several charges after he allegedly crashed into a Chautauqua County Sheriff’s deputy’s vehicle early Saturday morning.
At 12:43 a.m., a deputy was on patrol in Mayville at Route 430 and Bloomer Road when Michael J. Trippy, 28, of Westfield failed to stop at the side of the highway while riding his snowmobile, police said. Trippy entered the roadway and nearly struck a westbound vehicle. The deputy then activated his emergency lights to stop the snowmobile. However, Trippy allegedly continued on the roadway and struck the deputy’s vehicle.
Upon investigation, Trippy was found to be intoxicated, and he was charged with snowmobiling while intoxicated, reckless operation, failure to stop before crossing a highway and failure to yield while crossing a highway, police said.
Trippy was arraigned in Chautauqua Court and remanded to the Chautauqua County Jail in lieu of bail.
No one was injured in the accident.
