Lakewood-Chautauqua South Rotary Names Students Of The Month

The Lakewood-Chautauqua South Rotary Club recently announced their Students of the Month for October, November, December and January.

Anna Valone has been chosen as the Student of the Month for October. Anna is a fifth-grade student in Mrs. Deppas’ class at Southwestern Elementary School. Anna’s favorite subjects are science, social studies, physical education and music. Anna’s interests include soccer, 4-H Canadaway Club, 4-H dog program, Sharks swimming, skiing, and playing piano and the flute. Anna is interested in pursuing a career as a dolphin trainer/researcher or a veterinarian. Anna is the daughter of Rick and Julianne Valone and also shares her home with her three dogs, one of which, Buddy, helped her earn a blue ribbon at the New York State Fair.

Jetta Carrillo has been chosen as the Student of the Month for November. Jetta is a fifth-grade student in Ms. Waite’s class at Southwestern Elementary School. Jetta’s favorite subjects are social studies, science, ELA, art and music. Jetta’s interests include playing her clarinet, video games, drawing and reading books. She hopes to pursue a career as a veterinarian. Jetta shares her home with her parents Leoncio Carrillo and Jodie Abers, as well as four cats, a dog, and a hamster.

Sofia Genareo has been chosen as the Student of the Month for December. Sofia is a fifth-grade student in Mrs. Buttafarro’s class at Southwestern Elementary School. Sofia’s favorite subjects are math, science, physical education, art and music. Sofia’s interests include basketball, softball, Girl Scouts, soccer and chorus. Sofia is interested in pursuing a career as a scientist or a women’s basketball coach. Sofia shares her home with her parents, Marc and Jami Genareo as well as a sister and a brother.

Josh Mercado has been chosen as the Student of the Month for January. Josh is a fifth-grade student in Mrs. Kane’s class at Southwestern Elementary School. Josh’s favorite subjects are science, physical education and music. Josh’s interests include football, chorus, soccer, riding his bike, playing with his friends and watching WWE wrestling. Josh is interested in pursuing a career as a teacher. Josh is the grandson of Cindy Ackler and also shares his home with his brother, sister, two cats and two hermit crabs.
