Two Charged For Stealing Elderly Woman’s Purse
Two local residents are behind bars after allegedly stealing an elderly woman’s purse Tuesday night.
Jamestown Police responded to the Big Lots parking lot after learning an elderly woman had been robbed of her purse. Officers obtained a suspect and vehicle description from the victim and a witness, who saw the perpetrator get into the passenger side of a minivan before it sped off.
The victim and a witness, a Big Lots employee, attempted to stop the subject as she got into the van, but were unsuccessful. The victim and the witness were not injured.
Police located the minivan on South Main Street, near Newland Avenue, and took two women into custody following an investigation. Police said one of the women had stolen property in her possession.
Nicole L. Johnson, 27, of Jamestown, and Jenell L. Long, 38, of Mayville, were charged with second-degree robbery and criminal possession of stolen property, police said. The two are being held in Jamestown City Jail, pending arraignment.
Police recovered most of the stolen property. The investigation is continuing, and more charges are possible.
Police encourage anyone who is a witness to a crime to pass along any information they have.
