M&T Bank Collecting Personal Hygiene Items For Salvation Army

M&T Bank locations in Jamestown, Falconer, Lakewood, Mayville and Bemus Point will be collecting personal care and hygiene items in the month of March for The Salvation Army in Jamestown. The effort is part of United Way of Southern Chautauqua County’s 12 Months of Caring, a yearlong initiative to connect employee groups with community service projects. Captain John Merchant with The Salvation Army said the donations will meet an often neglected need.

“We receive food from organizations to distribute all the time, but sometimes things like tooth paste, shampoo and deodorant can be hard to come by,” Merchant said. “We’re just so thankful for M&T Bank’s effort to collect these items, which will be used by many of the people we serve.”

People are encouraged to drop off the following items into cardboard receptacles, which were donated by Jamestown Container Companies, when visiting any one of the M&T bank locations: toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, toilet paper, feminine products, body soap, shampoo, hair brushes and dish soap.

Jamie Gustafson is M&T Bank’s commercial branch manager, Jamestown Southside. She said taking part in the personal care and hygiene drive is a great way to give back.

“M&T Bank has a long history of helping out the community, and this is just another way we can do that,” Gustafson said. “We’re thrilled the donated items will be going to such a wonderful organization as The Salvation Army.”

Tory Irgang, United Way of Southern Chautauqua County executive director, said the personal care and hygiene drive epitomizes what 12 Months of Caring is all about.

“This project is all about caring,” Irgang said. “When people donate tooth paste, deodorant, shampoo or dish soap, they are helping to care for someone else. These may seem like small items, but they will have a tremendous impact.”
