CASAC To Offer Addiction Training In Fredonia March 28

“An Overview of Behavioral Addictions” scheduled for March 28 is a training offered through the Chautauqua Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Council. There are many diagnosable addictions. Some are chemical and others are behavioral. During this training, attendees will learn about the different types of behavioral addictions, many of which are becoming increasingly popular. The behavioral addictions discussed during this training will include: gambling, shopping, Internet, video gaming, cellphones, work and exercise.

The March 28 training will take place from 9 a.m. to noon. The three-hour course is scheduled to be offered at the First Presbyterian Fellowship Hall, 219 Central Ave., Fredonia. The presenters are Sally Yageric, CPP, and Megan Kunecki, B.S., from the Erie County Council for the Prevention of Alcohol and Substance Abuse.

CASAC training offerings are suitable for community members that are aspiring to learn more about addictions and other related topics to improve their lives and the lives of others.

This course is also for those seeking professional credentialing as a credentialed alcoholism and substance abuse counselor, credentialed prevention professional or credentialed prevention specialist. The three hours are approved by the New York State Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services CASAC renewal and CPP and CPS (Section 1). This coursework is also recognized and approved by the Pennsylvania Certification Board through reciprocity.

The council offers a number of professional training opportunities throughout the year. Individualized on-site training, depending upon staff needs, is available. All trainings can be designed either as an in-service training, conference or workshop.

The fee is $45 and pre-registration is required. Community members interested in the topic are welcome and encouraged to attend.
