Lakers Lose A Pair At State Tourney

AMHERST – The Jamestown Lakers lost to Palisades Predators, 4-2, in the first round of the Pee Wee Division of the New York State Hockey Tournament at the Northtowns Town Rink on Friday.

Jamestown carried a 2-1 lead into the final period, but gave up three goals to Palisades for the victory.

Andrew Dix scored the first goal for the Lakers, assisted by Jadon Barron at 14:07 of the second period to tie it up at 1-1.

Then, the Lakers took a 2-1 lead when Collin Bentley tallied on an assist by Ryan Schrecengost at 6:04 of the third period.

Kyle Dunn tied it up at 2-2 for the winners from Collin Callahan at 12:27 of the third period. With just 1:22 left in the game, Luke Morris got the winning goal unassisted followed by a power play empty-net goal by Ryan Hilliard unassisted with 42 seconds remaining to clinch it.

The first goal by Palisades was at 5:11 of the first period by Kevin Stush from Morris and Jared Marder.

Kaleb Bender was the goalie for Jamestown.

In the second game of the day, the Tri-Town Timberwolves came away with a 5-1 victory over the Lakers.

Barron scored from Dix for the lone Jamestown goal while Bender was again the Lakers’ goaltender.

The Timberwolves scored first on a powerplay goal from Noah Adams, assisted by Kaleb Rathbun followed by a short-handed goal by Jah Robertson.

Rathbun tallied the third unassisted goal, Brandan Phippen recorded a goal from Carter Rose and Olivia Hunter scored from Jah Robertson to complete the scoring for the winners.
