Kennedy Pride Plans For Upcoming Projects At Meeting
KENNEDY – Planning for future projects and events was a big portion of the recent Kennedy Pride meeting. Encouraging new members was also discussed.
A tentative date of the first Saturday in May was suggested for the Victorian Tea. This has been a popular event since its inception, and is eagerly awaited by many patrons each year.
Holding the townwide clean-up day was also considered. Since timing of the event makes no difference to the costs for dumpster rental, group members felt it would be better to hold it in May, before Memorial Day, so the weather should be better. Kennedy Pride will contact town officials to confirm a specific date.
No construction start date has been set for the pavilion in Hallquist Park. When weather conditions break, it can be determined if any remedial work will need to be done to the pad created for the new pavilion before construction can begin. Quotes are still being obtained for picnic tables for the pavilion. One member suggested looking into vinyl tables as well.
Roland Swanson stated that he has been giving some thought to the program for the Flag Retirement Ceremony in June. Community members look forward to this commemorative event each year.
How to get more members for Kennedy Pride was discussed. Anyone who is interested in the community is welcome, and there is no membership fee. There is a willing core of membership and those willing to assist, but new members would enable the group to expand their efforts for the community. Begun on Feb. 20, 2002, Kennedy Pride is now in its 13th year of service to the community.
Election of officers will be held during the next regular meeting of Kennedy Pride. This will be on Wednesday, March 19, at 6:30 p.m. in the Kennedy Free Library. Everyone is welcome to come, and to offer any ideas for projects to improve the community.
