Southern Tier Drug Organization Dismantled
BUFFALO – A four monthslong investigation into drug trafficking concluded Wednesday with the seizure of more than $50,000 worth of heroin and $70,000 in cash.
Southern Tier Regional Task Force agents, teaming with the Drug Enforcement Administration, began an investigation into the distribution of heroin in the Southern Tier, specifically in the cities of Salamanca and Olean, in November 2013. The investigation revealed a complex drug organization based in Buffalo, responsible for the distribution of large quantities of heroin.
A search warrant, executed at 283 West Delevan Street in Buffalo, turned up 591 grams of heroin. During this time agents arrested and charged Steven Martinez, Jeffery Coleman, Tomas Figueroa, Julio Sanchez and Elias Figueroa with conspiracy to distribute, in excess of 1,000 grams or more of a mixture and substance containing heroin.
On Friday, all suspects were arraigned in front of US Magistrate Judge H. Kenneth Schroeder Jr. and were remanded to the custody of the US Marshall Service without bail. Assistant US Attorney Thomas Duszkiewicz has been assigned to prosecute the case. Additional arrests are expected pending the conclusion of the investigation.
