Rowing Association Preparing For New Season

The Chautauqua Lake Rowing Association held its annual meeting on recently and highlights of the 2013 season were presented, plans for 2014 were discussed and elections for the board of directors were held.

The board officers are Kathleen McCarthy, president; Mickey Sorenson, vice-president; Doreen Loll, secretary; and Colleen Wright, treasurer. Board members are Maureen Mack, Kevin Sixbey, Jim Odrzywolski and Scott Montgomery.

The high school team has begun indoor practices with strength training, core exercises, ergometer training, as well as rowing technique, rigging, boat/water safety and nutrition. Students come from five area high schools as well as home-schooled students. Training may be taking place on the Chadakoin River by the third week in March.

The team will attend five regattas in New York and Pennsylvania.

The annual learn-to-row program will be held at the boathouse on June 7 at 9 a.m.. and continues June 9-12 at 5:30 p.m. This introductory program prepares the rower to continue in the CLRA recreational and competitive programs. No prior experience is necessary.
