Capestrani Earns Medal At State Track Meet

ITHACA – It was a very successful indoor track and field track season for Jamestown, which concluded at the state championships on Saturday at Cornell University,

The Red Raiders sent nine athletes for the most ever to the state meet and Mikayla Capestrani did the best job by taking eighth place in the pole vault.

Capestrani was involved in a five-way tiebreaker from fifth to ninth place and, based on fewest misses, earned a New York State Federation medal.

Summer Haight missed qualifying for the semifinals and finished 20th with an 8.96 in the 55 hurdles.

Sarah Garvin, who came in seeded 29th, wound up with a 43.30 in the 300.

Da’Quon Hollingsworth took 17th place with a 6.71 clocking in the 55 and just missed qualifying for the semifinals.

Austen Beaver, Henry Tapia, Kevin Tapia and Kivanne Serrano of Jamestown, who were seeded 12th coming into the meet, took 12th overall in the 800 relay.
