Farman Free Library To Hold Future Events
ELLINGTON – There are plenty of free upcoming activities planned for youth in Ellington.
Two main events the library will be hosting include an event to buy or sell prom and bridesmaid dresses on April 12 and a poetry slam competition on April 17.
According to Arissa Hitchcock, library director, she is especially excited for the prom and bridesmaid dress event.
“The event will provide a great opportunity to swap – and not repeat – prom and bridesmaid dresses,” she said, adding that a few of her friends will be bringing personal dresses that are quite valuable.
Each seller will set the prices for their items and keep the earnings. The cost to sell is $20 per item that sells.
Hitchcock said the poetry competition will be the same event that was recently held at the Prendergast Library in Jamestown. A poetry slam is a competition where participants read or recite original poems or the work of other authors.
“It’s a great opportunity and many teenagers in the area were interested in participating,” she said regarding the event.
Specifically, the event will be centered on contestants reciting one poem by Emily Dickinson and one original poem. Each contestant will have three minutes to present the poems. Judging will be based on a 10-point scale by five randomly selected judges. Costumes and special effects are not permitted. It is suggested that participants be at least 14 years old.
Other upcoming events at the library include: Dr. Seuss Day, today from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Family Fun Night, March 19 from 5:30-7 p.m.; Pancake Supper Night, March 22 from 4:30-7 p.m.; library board meeting, March 31 at 7 p.m.; Family Fun Night, April 16 from 5:30-7 p.m.; Easter Egg Hunt, April 19 from 11 a.m. to noon.; and library board meeting, April 28 at 7 p.m.
