Dolores J. “Middy” (Middleton) Riddle
WESTFIELD – Dolores J. “Middy” (Middleton) Riddle, 85, of Wood Street, Westfield, died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014, at Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility in Greenhurst, N.Y., following a brief illness.
Dolores was born April 1, 1928, in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of the late Wallace James and Margaret F. (Fendler) Middleton.
A Westfield resident since 2003, she and her late husband, “Bim,” moved here from Medina, Ohio, to be closer to their family. Middy spent most of her life in Ohio, where she was a 1947 graduate of Lakewood High School and attended St. Luke’s Nursing School of Cleveland.
She enjoyed reading, knitting, gardening and flowers, she raised some wicked orchids! She had been an active member of The Fire Bells, the auxiliary for the Lafayette Fire Department of Ohio, and had been a Girl Scout leader and a 4-H leader.
However, mostly, Dolores had been a dedicated homemaker, who enjoyed raising her family and several foster children.
She is survived by her two daughters: Susan Riddle of Westfield, N.Y., and Penny Smith of Milford, Mass.; her son: Douglas Graham of Mission Viejo, Calif.; many grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Robert W. “Bim” Riddle, whom she married July 3, 1948, in Cleveland, Ohio, and who died Jan. 24, 2006; and by two sons: Norman Riddle and Paul Lawson.
Family and friends may call at the MASON Funeral Home, 37 Clinton St., Westfield, N.Y., on Saturday, March 1, 2014, from 2 p.m. until the time of services there at 4 p.m., with the Rev. Kevin Connolly officiating. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
