Pennsylvania Woman Charged With Shaking Baby Recklessly
CARROLLTON-A Pennsylvania woman was charged Thursday after allegedly shaking a 19-month-old child recklessly and sustaining her with head trauma.
According to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office, Jessica N. Courteau, 22, of Bradford faces first-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child charges following an investigation into her alleged actions at a Carrollton residence on 660 Parkside Drive.
Police were notified by the Bradford Regional Medical Center that a 19-month-old female was brought in with a very serious and unexplainable head trauma. The child was transferred to the Buffalo Women and Children’s Hospital, where medical staff determined that the trauma was likely caused by recklessly shaking the child.
Presently, the child is in critical, but stable condition.
Courteau was arraigned in Great Valley Court and remanded to Cattaraugus County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Cattaraugus County Child Protection Services.
