James F. “Jim” Arrance

FALCONER, N.Y. –

James F. “Jim” Arrance, 86, of Water Street, Falconer, formerly of Steamburg, N.Y., passed away at 12:10 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, in UPMC Hamot Medical Center in Erie, Pa.

Jim was born Feb. 17, 1928, in Jamestown, the son of the late Paul B. and Odessa P. Burr Arrance.

He attended Randolph Central School, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War from 1950-52.

He retired from Jamestown Metal Products and had previously owned and operated a dairy farm in Steamburg. Jim also worked earlier for the former Queensboro Farm Products in Steamburg, N.Y.

Jim was a member of the Jamestown Coin Club, Randolph American Legion Post 181 and Steamburg United Methodist Church, where he had been a deacon, trustee and usher.

He was a longtime trustee for the Steamburg Cemetery Association, where he served as treasurer and secretary. Jim also enjoyed coin collecting and antiques.

He is survived by a son: Thomas Arrance and wife, Joyce of Falconer, with whom he made his home; two sisters: Betty J. Arrance Archer of Lancaster, Ohio, and Donna M. (the late Rev. Richard) Doud of Springville, N.Y.; three grandchildren: Jonathan Arrance and wife, Keven of Clayton, N.C., Sarah Carlson and husband, Matthew of Falconer, and Rachael Hasson and husband, Ronald of Frewsburg; and a great-grandson, Alexander James Hasson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joyce Carlson Arrance in October of 1956; and a sister; Dorthea Arrance.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Friday (Feb. 28, 2014), in the Van-Rensselaer & Son Funeral Home, 14 Church St., Randolph, NY 14772.

Funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Rick Peters, pastor of the Steamburg United Methodist Church, will officiate.

Full military honors will be conducted by the Randolph American Legion.

Burial will be in the Steamburg Cemetery.
