Jo Ann Ortolano
Jo Ann Ortolano, 63, of Kiantone, N.Y., passed away at 4:30 a.m. Friday (Feb. 21, 2014), in her home, surrounded by her children.
A longtime area resident, she was born March 19, 1950, in Jamestown, the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Ortolano.
Jo Ann was one of the most loving, caring and giving people anyone could ever hope to cross paths with. As a valuable employee at SKF for 18 years, Jo Ann had much respect from her friends and co-workers. She was also an avid supporter of St. Jude and many other charitable organizations.
There wasn’t any topic that Jo Ann didn’t find interesting. She loved talking about her work, science, nature, the stars and just had a brilliant curiosity about everything. She loved her entire family and was completed by her children and grandchildren always having that mother’s sixth sense about her. Having the strength of a seasoned warrior combined with the patience of a loving mother, she had that “can do” attitude that was nothing short of inspiring. Her door was always open and she always had a hot cup of fresh coffee waiting for anyone that came through it. Having made “the sauce” every Sunday, there was always room for one more. She was loved by many.
She is survived by her children: Patricia Ann Duncanson, Wallace H. Ryder III and Steven Ryder; her six grandchildren: Michael Woodard, Douglas Woodard, Amber Johnson, Morgan Ryder, Camryn Ryder and Jacob Ryder; and her siblings: Mary Ann Garvey, Grace Ann Grice and Russel Ortolano.
In addition to her parents, Thomas Ortolano and Mary Ortolano, she was preceded in death by her sister, Roseann Ortolano.
There will be a memorial gathering Wednesday evening from 4-8 p.m. at the Rod and Gun Club in Falconer.
