Sally Jane Mitchell
RANDOLPH, N.Y. – Sally Jane Mitchell, 71, of Main Street, Randolph, N.Y., passed away at 3:10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, at home, with her family by her side, while under the care of Hospice.
She was born Nov. 15, 1942, in Salamanca, N.Y., the daughter of Myrtle Lounsbury Herman of Great Valley, and the late Gilbert Herman.
Sally was a 1960 graduate of Ellicottville Central School. Mrs. Mitchell and her late husband, Jim, were owner-operators of Mitchell Surge in Randolph, serving dairy farms throughout Western New York for more than 30 years. In earlier years, she had worked in Washington D.C. for Pulse Communications and for Randolph Central School as a teacher’s aide at Gail N. Chapman Elementary. Following her retirement, she worked at the Salamanca McDonald’s.
She was a member of the Randolph United Presbyterian Church, Randolph Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 2273 and was a former member of the Ellicottville Presbyterian Church and the former Randolph Grange.
Sally enjoyed crafts, painting, woodcarving, card making and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was also eagerly anticipating the arrival of her first great- granddaughter.
She is survived by her mother, Myrtle; a sister; Gail Ferren and husband, Doug of Inverness, Fla.; a son, Phillip “PJ” Mitchell and wife, Tracey of Randolph; two daughters: Kelly Mitchell of Randolph, and Kimberly “Kimmer” Mruk and husband, John of Wake Forest, N.C.; seven grandsons: Michael Lundsten and wife, Alyssa, Matthew Lundsten, Jacob Long, Austin and Alex Mitchell, Nicholas and Joshua Mruk; six foster children: Kevin Willard, Mark Hulburt, Mike Hulburt, Debbie Snyder, Eva Phillips-McCall and Mark Phillips.
She was preceded in death by her father; her husband, James “Jim” C. Mitchell, whom she married May 6, 1961, in the El-licottville Presbyterian Church, and who preceded her on Dec. 16, 2012.
The family will receive friends from 2-5 p.m. Sun-day (Feb. 23, 2014), in the VanRensselaer & Son Funeral Home, 14 Church St., Randolph, NY 14772.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Randolph United Presbyterian Church, where the family will also be received one hour prior. The Rev. Leslie Latham will officiate.
