William A. Hart

LITTLE VALLEY, N.Y. – William A. Hart, 92, of Jersey Hollow Road, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, in Jamestown, N.Y.

He was born Sept. 1, 1921, in the town of Mans-field, N.Y., the son of the late William E. and Alfretta (Myers) Hart.

On Oct. 4, 1941, in Little Valley, N.Y., he married the former Madeline J. Beardsley, who predeceased him on Oct. 29, 2006.

Mr. Hart was a World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Army Air Corps with the AAF 438th Troop Carrier Group, as a airplane and engine mechanic. He flew paratroopers on D-Day and dropped them behind enemy lines and flew gas in the Battle of the Bulge.

He was the town of Mansfield Supervisor and in 1964 built the new town of Mansfield highway barn for $25,487. He also owned and operated a dairy farm.

He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and the Little Valley American Legion Post 531, and a member of Local 17 International Union of Operating Engineers.

He is survived by two daughters: Sharyl (David Seely) Solsbee of Jamestown, N.Y., and Bonnie Friedl of Little Valley, N.Y.; five grandchildren: Yvette Solsbee, Lynette (Mark) Carr, Collette (Randy) Keith, Tammy (Karl Bullock and Thomas (Michelle) Friedl; 10 great-grandchildren. one great-great-grandson, and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife, he is predeceased by a sister, Mae Minnekine.

A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
