William ‘’Bill’’ John McMaster
William ”Bill” John McMaster, 71, of Las Vegas, Nev., passed away Jan. 25, 2014.
A memorial service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, at Spring Valley Baptist Church, 3135 S. Rainbow Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89146, (702) 871-0150. Pastor Johnny Nantz will officiate. Mr. McMaster will be interred with full military honors at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder, Nev.
Bill was born in Jamestown, N.Y., on Dec. 28, 1942, and graduated from Jamestown High School.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1962.
Bill shared a home in Las Vegas, with his loving wife, TG McMaster, and his beautiful daughter, Anna Mary McMaster.
A veteran of the Vietnam and Persian Gulf Wars, Bill obtained the rank of master chief petty officer specializing as a master at arms.
He was the recipient of numerous military and civilian awards, medals and commendations. Much of his life was spent throughout Southeast Asia and the Middle East proudly serving his country in both war and peace.
Following a 30-year career, Bill retired with an honorary discharge and joined the Military Sealift Command, where he saw additional action during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
One of Bill’s proudest moments was serving on a security detail for President George H.W. Bush.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Loyal Order of the Moose. He enjoyed playing tennis and golf and was an avid sports fan of baseball, football, hockey and basketball.
Bill is survived by his wife, TG; his daughter, Anna; his sister, Rosemarie ”Ginger” Cheney of Frewsburg, N.Y.; nieces and nephews: Donald Erickson of Ramona, Calif., Rebecca Erickson of Smethport, Pa., Kimberly Atwood of Frewsburg N.Y., Lisa Cheney of Frewsburg, N.Y., Natalie Richie of San Francisco, Calif., David Cheney of Frewsburg. N.Y., and Kristin Anderson of Frewsburg, N.Y.; and his best friend, Donald Sturges of Dubai, U.A.E
Bill was preceded in death by his father, William McMaster; his mother, Anne McMaster; and sisters: Lillian Denardi and Andrea Thompson.
