William B. Wittenbrook
GERRY – William B. Wittenbrook, 75, of Sinclairville, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014, at Heritage Village Skilled Nursing and Rehab, due to multiple medical conditions.
He was born Aug. 11, 1938, in Cleveland, Ohio the son of the late John W. and Berneatus Christman- Wittenbrook.
Bill was very proud of his time in the military, starting with his stint in the U.S. Navy as a submariner, U.S. Navy Reserve, New York National Guard in the tank corps and finally in the U.S. Army Reserve teaching land navigation, retiring with the rank of master sergeant.
He wore many hats through the years, mechanic, salesman and entrepreneur. As an entrepreneur he could turn his hand to solve problems and fix anything. He worked for the Chautauqua County Highway Department, local auto agencies, Pacos Construction, Shore Acres Boat Yard, the FBO at the Chautauqua County Airport, several local insurance agencies and finally buying homes at auction, refurbishing them and renting and selling them.
However, his primary love was his home in South Stockton. Bill loved to work, enjoyed boating, fishing, ice fishing, hunting and flying airplanes when-ever he could, and devised many ways to accomplish his goals as his strength and ability waned.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 52 years, Claudia (Nugent); sons: Charles (Kelly) of Sinclairville, and Matt (Renee) of South Dayton; daughter, Kate (John) Horne of Lynnwood, Wash.; grandchildren: Ben (Deborah) of Norfolk, Va., Rich of Colorado Springs, Colo., William J. (Natalie) of Lynchburg, Va., and Izabelle Horne of Lynnwood, Wash.
He also leaves a stepsister, Janelle of Ashland, Ohio; and several cousins, aunts and uncles.
Bill belonged to several organizations, the War Vets, the American Legion (where he was a regular for the Thursday night bluegrass music), the Moose, the Thule Lodge, the Vikings, and enjoyed going to Jamestown Community College for Swedish studies to play his violin.
Funeral arrangements are by Jordan Funeral Home, Sinclairville. Calling hours will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 7. The funeral will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
