Clymer Girls Overcome Slow Start To Top Brocton

CLYMER- It was a close game early on between Brocton (2-7, 4-8) and Clymer, but the Lady Pirates (7-2, 9-5) managed to overcome poor free-throw shooting and battled their way to a 55-37 win in West Division 2 girls basketball.

Clymer led by just a single point, 12-11, in the first quarter, but found some scoring stride in the second with a 14-5 run and outscored the Lady Bulldogs, 29-22, in the second half.

Leading the way for the Lady Pirates were Dani Wade and Breanna Summers with 10 points apiece. Carly McAfoose led with 11 rebounds, Amanda Einink added nine rebounds, Kayla Gilkinson had eight steals and MJ Trisket made six steals and had five assists.

For Brocton, Jess Putcher scored 15 points, Jess Merle grabbed nine rebounds and Brooke Kuschel pulled down seven rebounds.

PANAMA STARTS QUICK

PANAMA – Panama (6-3, 10-3) jumped out to a 16-2 lead after the first quarter and was never headed in a 61-30 win over Westfield.

The Lady Panthers were led by Brianna Marsh with a triple-double of 10 points, 14 rebound and 10 blocks.

Panama also had two double-doubles. Brittany Lenart had 18 points and 10 rebounds, and Emilee Sperry recorded 13 points and 10 rebounds. Taylor Bowen picked up 11 assists

Brenna Culbreth led Westfield with 10 points and five rebounds, and Rachel Allen four steals.

MAYVILLE – Chautauqua Lake (12-1) was simply dominant all night long and rolled to an easy 71-11 victory over Cassadaga Valley.

For the winners, Jenna Einink racked up 14 points with seven rebounds, Courtney Hewes added 14 points and had 12 steals, Taylor Phelps produced 11 points, Ashton Albaneius contributed 10 points and Tara Hunt had seven assists.
