Petersen Leads Frewsburg-Falconer To 70-64 Victory Over Southwestern

FALCONER – Frewsburg-Falconer defeated Southwestern for the second time this season in a Division 1 West boys basketball game on Saturday night.

Kyle Petersen poured in 22 points as the Golden Bears (4-4, 8-7) led all the way en route to a 70-64 win over their arch-rival.

Frewsburg-Falconer started out with a 24-13 first-quarter edge with Mitch Carter having nine points, Josh Nelson seven and Petersen a pair of 3-pointers.

The Golden Bears shot 23-of-40 for 58 percent from the floor, including 9-of-15 for 60 percent from beyond the arc. At halftime, Carter had 12 points and Petersen 11 points.

Southwestern got within five points late in the fourth quarter, but Frewsburg-Falconer made 13-of-17 foul shots down the stretch to hold on for the victory. Nelson and Petersen were 4-of-4 in the closing moments.

Petersen led Frewsburg-Falconer with four three-pointers while Carter added 17 points and Nelson 16.

Mike Sandbloom sank 20 points. Jack Carlson 13 and Riley Rybicki 10 for Southwestern. Rybicki grabbed eight rebounds and assisted four times and Kyle Moran also hauled down eight rebounds.

Carter brought down 11 rebounds, Petersen and Derek Smith contributed seven assists, and Nelson had five assists and four blocks.

MORRISON PUTS ON SHOW

RANDOLPH – Bryce Morrison tied his brother Blake’s record of 10 three-pointers and had 39 points overall as Randolph outlasted Salamanca, 76-75, in Division 1 East boys basketball action on Friday.

Morrison connected for 19 points in the final quarter when the Cardinals (7-0, 10-4) came from behind to pull out the victory. Amazingly, the first 27 points scored by Randolph were the results of nine three-pointers.

Cody Oldro sank two free throws with five seconds left to give the Cardinals a four-point lead that was shaved to one with a Damian Taylor’s 3-pointer. Oldro made 5-of-6 free throws and Morrison 3-of-4 down the stretch.

The Cardinals had a total of 16 3-pointers with Mitch Maycock adding three and Bosley two. Oldro finished second in scoring to Morrison with 13 points.

Jared Fish of Salamanca sank 36 points, connecting on 12-of-13 attempts from the foul line while Taylor added 16 points and Andy Crandall 14.
