Jamz Wallis, 24, of Amherst was charged Tuesday with speed not reasonable and prudent and operating out of class. At approximately 8:55 a.m., Wallis lost control of his 2013 Hino Box Truck on Route 430 while taking the ramp to I-86 west. He reportedly lost control due to unsafe speed and slippery road conditions. The truck struck a small sign, went over an embankment and rolled onto the driver side. Wallis was uninjured. Bemus Point Fire Department shut down the ramp for a short period of time while the truck was removed. Wallis will appear in Ellery Court at a later date.


A 17-year-old female was charged Monday with fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property. At approximately 6:17 p.m., officers were dispatched to Hazzard Street for a larceny of a cellphone. Upon arrival, officers spoke to the victim who stated the phone was reported as stolen from Boces in Ashville earlier in the day. Through investigation, officers located a 17-year-old female at an apartment at 566 Allen St. Officers located the missing cellphone in her purse. The teenager was transported to Jamestown City Jail.

Juan A. Velazquez Rodriguez, 35, was charged Tuesday with obstructed view, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operator and fugitive from justice. At approximately 9:06 a.m., officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that Rodriguez had an outstanding warrant out of Hillsborough Co., Florida.
