Toy Leads Sherman Past Brocton

SHERMAN – Roxanne Toy was the rebounding and scoring standout for Sherman (5-3, 9-5) in Division 2 West girls basketball Monday night.

Toy grabbed 22 rebounds and added 16 points as the Lady Wildcats defeated Brocton (2-8, 4-6), 73-25.

Page Zenns, who is back this year after missing the season last year with a knee injury, came off the Sherman bench and netted 16 points as well. She had 13 points in the second and third periods.

Bridget Yaw scored all of her 10 points in the opening eight minutes when Sherman took a 23-1 lead.

Jessica Merle sank a free throw to provide Brocton with its only point in the first chapter.

Talia Coccarelli became the fourth player for Sherman in double figures by swishing 12 points and making six steals. Jurnee Hannold also had six steals while Yaw added seven rebounds and four assists.

Jessica Putcher sank seven points for Brocton and grabbed eight rebounds to tie teammate Merle. High in rebounds for Brocton was Jessica Delcamp with nine rebounds while Hannah Truitt had four steals and three assists.

GILKINSON STARTS FAST

CLYMER – A fast start, led by Kayla Gilkinson, sparked Clymer to a win.

Gilkinson scored five of her seven points in the 17-5 first quarter lead and Clymer (5-2, 8-6) went to post a 51-27 verdict over Westfield (1-7, 1-12).

The high scorer for Clymer was sophomore Libby Heil, who was just recently brought up from the jayvees, and had 11 points.

M.J. Trisket grabbed nine rebounds and Carlie McAfoose added seven for the winners. Gilkinson led in steals with eight and Trisket also had six assists.

Marissa Okerlund had 11 points and five rebounds for Westfield.
