Cassadaga Valley Holds Off Brocton In Division 2 West

SINCLAIRVILLE – Brocton gave Cassadaga Valley all it could handle on Friday night, especially on the defensive side, but the Cougars (5-2, 9-4) held off a late charge and pulled out a 41-38 victory in Division 2 West boys basketball.

Cassadaga Valley was in control early, leading by nine at the half, but the Bulldogs (0-7, 1-10) trimmed the lead to only seven after three quarters, 33-26, then Macallun Buchanan went on a tear, scoring 10 of his team-leading 22 points, further cutting the Cougars’ advantage as time ran down.

However, Cody Johnson, who led the Cougars with 23 points, hit four huge free throws when it counted and scored eight points in the final period to increase Cassadaga Valley’s lead to 41-38. The Bulldogs had one final chance to get the win, but were unable to get a shot off in time.

Defensively, Mike Lancaster led the team in rebounds with eight and added three blocks and three assists and Randy Dalaba had six points and seven rebounds.
